Creating and sustaining homes for teens: Advancing A Home for Every Child

Successfully recruiting foster, adoptive, and kinship homes for adolescents depends not only on identifying and supporting prospective families but on creating the conditions that help those homes remain stable and supported. Efforts to recruit caregivers for teens are most effective when they are accompanied by strong preparation, relationship-centered support, family-centered practice, and ongoing system improvement.

This free webinar explores recruitment, retention, and placement stability as interconnected strategies. Participants will explore effective recruitment messaging, caregiver preparation, youth-centered practice, and retention supports that promote lasting, family-based placements for adolescents.

Participants will also understand how data can inform effective and continuous improvement efforts that better support youth and families. Throughout the session, adoptive parents will share their lived experiences of raising young adults who entered their families through foster care as teens, helping ground policy and practice in the realities faced by youth and families.

A Home for Every Child, a new initiative from the Administration for Children and Families, reinforces the importance of building long-term capacity to promote belonging, placement stability, and positive outcomes for youth and caregivers. The session will highlight practical, family-centered, and relationship-based strategies that strengthen caregiver capacity, promote belonging, improve permanency outcomes, and align with this nationwide initiative.
